What a treat! Excellent lunch. Felt pampered with the excellent, kind service. Several good choices for Type 1 diabetics. The cheeseboard and doggie bag were much appreciated. Table setting much appreciated, helping to make the occasion special.
Bonus having the shop to buy additional treats.

Coghlan’s is in a beautiful village well off the beaten track. We had afternoon tea in a lovely room with old fashioned crockery on the table.

The sandwiches on home made bread were all excellent with the cheese savoury being our favourite.

I loved the tomato quiche, snd had extra as my wife prefers hers warm.

The plain scones were served with whipped cream (we prefer clotted) and the jam was already loaded. We mentioned I didn’t like jam and they brought me an extra fruit scone free of charge.

The blueberry muffin was superb, very moist. The lemon tart was tangy and the posset was nice and light. I don’t like meringue, so my wife had extra.

Service was fantastic with our coffee pot being refilled regularly.

We were looking for a location to have an afternoon team and found this little gem. The tearoom is an old coach house set back off of the road. The owners were friendly and hospitable and the afternoon tea that they serve is the best that we have had and we have had a few ! The sandwiches were made from fresh home baked bread and the fillings were full of flavor. There was a small quiche, which again was full of flavor and then we moved on to the sweet delights. These were all freshly baked and the flavors were superb. The scones and sponge were so light , the meringues were out of this world, there was a lemon tart, which again was so full of flavor , but in our opinion the star of the show was the strawberry posset, which was full of flavor and topped with very delicious fresh strawberries. Upon leaving we visited the little shop on the side of the building, which sells many items, among them was a selection of pastries and I would recommend the Cornish pasty, which made a very pleasant supper .

I needed a last minute main course dish (for a small lunch party) which needed to pair with our wine. As always, the food from Coughlans, in this case a lovely chicken dish in a mushroom & white wine sauce, was perfect - and much enjoyed by everyone. Coughlans provides: an excellent tearoom, locally sourced produce in their useful shop, and talented catering for large parties - or just those last minute instant meals!

I am an afternoon tea fan and have tried afternoon tea at various locations and venues but this has yet to be beaten!
The service is impeccable, drinks topped up without having to ask, checking that everything is ok, friendly chat and amazing home cooked food.
There is also a shop to buy fresh produce, cheese, jams, chutney, cakes and bread before leaving
Visited this time for my mother in laws birthday and made to feel like royalty (even served from the same teapot that King Charles had )

This is a truly special place which I will continue to revisit

We very much enjoyed our visit to Coghlans for afternoon tea. Located in the lovely village of Barningham, this is a hidden gem. The afternoon tea was a fabulous and substantial combination of savory and sweet and was a real treat. The service was excellent, the staff did all they could to ensure this was an experience to remember. Highly recommended.

We were staying near Richmond in North Yorkshire for 3 nights for my wife’s birthday and decided to have afternoon tea at Coghlands in Barningham as part of the weekend. We went on Saturday lunchtime and went in the shop to start with, which was small but perfectly formed, selling local produce, of which we bought some delicacies. We then went in to the cafe for our afternoon tea. The host was a wonderful gentleman who knew all about the estate and offered us a lovely welcome. The sandwiches, cakes and tea were so good. They even provide a selection of hats to wear to make the experience more authentic . Wherever you are up near Richmond or Barningham, book an afternoon tea here and you’ll love it. What an amazing place! We arrived in our community bus and were guided for easy parking as we have two on board with a bit less mobility. We were warmly welcomed and treated with so much consideration, attention and kindness. The attention to every detail was faultless. We were so looked after by our host and nothing was too much trouble. The food was absolutely gorgeous and excellently presented. Cannot wait to return.

I cant find the right place to write this review because its about your fine dining and not on site but deserves the highest accolade. Not only did you provide an outstanding four course meal for 34 on a Saturday evening but also an outstanding grazing buffet for 50 on the Sunday. Even though you had a difficult situation regarding a hospital visit your professionalism shone through as did the quality and quantity of the food. This was most definitely 5 star and a huge thank you is due to all who were involved. Would we use you again? already thinking about what event we can host to use your services in fact, there were four people who couldn't attend due to illness, so I'll be booking an afternoon tea shortly to share with them at Barningham.
